COMPLAINTS WE HEAR
Why businesses leave RingCentral
- Price creep at renewal. Renewal rates can rise above the rate you signed at. Per-seat increases stack up fast across a team.
- Paying for seats you do not use. With per-user pricing, you pay for every person on the plan, including the ones who barely touch the phone.
- Bundles you do not need. Platforms keep adding new products and tiers. If you only need calling, SMS, and voicemail, make sure you are not paying for what your team will never use.
- Support experiences. When the system goes down, getting a human who can actually fix it should not be the hardest part of your day.

What to evaluate in an alternative
Not every RingCentral alternative is better, and some are worse. The right one depends on your team size, your must-have features, and your tolerance for migration risk. These are the five questions that matter most:
- Real per-user cost. Not the teaser rate. What is the actual monthly number per user for the features you need?
- Can you keep your numbers? Porting should be straightforward and handled by the new provider. If it sounds complicated, that is a warning sign.
- Do the core features work well? Calling quality, voicemail to email, SMS, auto attendant. The basics need to be boring and reliable.
- What does support actually look like? Ask how to reach a human, and how fast they respond. Test it before you sign, not after.
- What is the exit like? Month to month is ideal. If there is a term, know the early termination cost before you commit.
Switching does not have to hurt
The fear of switching keeps a lot of businesses locked into systems they dislike. In practice, a typical small business switch takes one to three weeks: numbers port, the new system is configured, your team gets a short training session, and the old system is retired. The risk is manageable when someone who has done it before is running the process. And if switching away from RingCentral is not worth it for your team, the checkup will say so.
